iPhone users who recently upgraded to iOS 14 beta are reporting non-required camera usage while using the popular social media application Instagram. Allegedly, a green dot appears in the notification section while scrolling through the feed, which implies that the FaceTime camera is being used without the user trying to willingly click pictures. This can be a potential privacy breach. Instagram responded to this issue immediately, saying that it is a bug.

Apple added these features to their operating system with the last update, wherein the user will be informed every time an application tries to have a sneak peek at your data. They have some of the most secure ecosystems on the planet, as they claim. They have the most sophisticated mechanism when it comes to granting permission to any application. Hence, the news surfaced at a very quick pace and is now being looked into.

"We only access your camera when you tell us to—for example, when you swipe from Feed to Camera. We found and are fixing a bug in iOS 14 Beta that mistakenly indicates that some people are using the camera when they aren’t. We do not access your camera in those instances, and no content is recorded"- Instagram said to The Verge

This is not the first time that a Facebook-owned application is being held responsible for such a breach. Last year, Facebook themselves reported solving a bug that was accessing the user's camera. This also shows how serious Apple is in terms of the security and privacy of its customers.
