You must have heard about the insanely high iPhone prices in India. Very recently, a meme on social media caught fire which said, 'you could either go to Dubai, buy an iPhone 12, stay there for a couple of days, and come back OR you could buy an iPhone in India!'

Strange but true, the global prices of this exceptionally successful lineup are in fact 2/3 of those in India. Well, the actual cost Apple incurs to make an iPhone 12 is about $431. A report by Counterpoint Research, the Bill of Materials for the iPhone 12 sums up to around 31,000INR. And mind you, this is after adding the new 5G chipset and the A14 bionic chipset.
Assuming a 38% mmWave mix, the blended materials cost for the iPhone 12 with 128GB NAND flash is nearly $415, a 21% increase over its predecessor. Application processor, 5G baseband, display and 5G RF components represent the major areas of the cost increase, says the report!
With the iPhone 12, Apple has switched to OLED panels, which costs an additional $23. The new Apple A14 bionic adds a $17 to the total manufacturing cost. Sourcing some memory components from Samsung and SK Hynix, the camera components are bought from Sony and LG.
However, the price of a 128GB Apple iPhone 12 in India is 84,900INR.
